What is considered discrimination at the work place, or what is considered a “Hostile Work Environment?”?
I was told to cover visible tattoos and to take out visible piercing hoops even though other employees are permitted to show and wear this type of body art. I was threatened with termination if I didn’t comply. Isn’t this discrimination? Is it legal to treat one employee differently from their peers?
Yes it’s discrimination.
Yes it’s legal. I’ve worked in and run a dozen different offices over the past almost 40 years.
Good employees get more slack. Bad ones don’t. Bosses just LOVE people that I hated on site.
It is what it is.
There is no EEOC guideline for appearance or tattoos. Nor is there a requirement that you treat every employee the same.
Hostile work environment is whatever you can prove to a court or an employment board.
Almost never happens
